Beginners welcome!

Shall we play kendo together once in Yagyu, Nara, Japan.

In Yagyu, Kendo is very popular, because Yagyu is the place of origin of the Yagyushinnkageryu style of Kendo.

新陰流兵法目録事/宝山寺所蔵

Yagyushinnkageryu style of Kendo was created by Muneyoshi Yagyu (His another name is Sekisyuusai Yagyuu). It is famous as Mutoudori, which means a technique derived form Jiu-jutsu, that the opponent's sword is taken with his hand without using a sword.

We are currently active in the Japanese Kendo Federation and our techniqe does not follow the Yagyushinnkageryu style of Kendo enough, but our Kendo spirit in Yagyu follows the Yagyushinnkageryu style of Kendo enough.

For example, in Yagyu, We learn Kendo in elementary school and junior high school, too. This subject in Yagyu is a special local curriculum even in Japan.

Although Yagyu is a rural area where no train runs, and the population of children is decreasing, the children of Yagyukenyukai still play an active part in various kendo events. The other day, both elementary and junior high school students ranked third in Sekisyuusai Yagyu memorial Kendo tournament.

If you want to take a nice picture which shows a samurai who cut a large stone by a sword as in the picture shown above, you can do it. This cut stone is a legendary stone which Sekisyuusai Yagyu cut by a sword when he wanted to cut legendary monstor, Teng.
